Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Clinical Care Assistant at JWCH is a full-time role reporting directly to the Clinic Administrator or designated supervisor. This position involves supporting patient care by executing routine clinical tasks and technical functions within the regulatory framework. As a Clinical Care Assistant, you will collaborate closely with healthcare teams to provide essential care in a clinical environment, contributing to the improvement of health outcomes for the underserved populations in the greater Los Angeles area.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execute routine (non-invasive) patient care tasks as directed by licensed healthcare professionals, adhering to established clinic protocols and procedures.
  2. Gather and document patient information, including vital signs such as height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure, in accordance with clinic policies.
  3. Conduct laboratory tests, including finger sticks, following appropriate training and competency verification.
  4. Administer immunizations and medications as per provider instructions, ensuring verification of medication and dosage by a licensed healthcare professional.
  5. Perform venipuncture and PPD skin tests, documenting results and communicating findings to the provider or Registered Nurse.
  6. Apply and remove dressings and bandages as necessary.
  7. Implement aseptic techniques and infection control measures as per established policies.
  8. Provide basic health education and information to patients, following established guidelines.
  9. Assist patients in achieving self-management goals as outlined in their care plans under the guidance of licensed healthcare providers.
  10. Carry out routine administrative tasks as assigned.
  11. Manage phone communications efficiently and effectively.
  12. Schedule appointments for patients, both routine and follow-up.
  13. Ensure accurate filing of patient documents, including lab results and other relevant information after provider review.
  14. Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient examination rooms and workspaces.
  15. Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
  16. Engage in staff meetings and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.
  17. Participate in safety programs, which may include roles in emergency response teams.
  18. Perform additional duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program with a valid MA certification.
  3. Verification of required hours in an approved Medical Assistant course for venipuncture.
  4. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  5. Preferred: Two years of experience in an outpatient clinic setting.
  6. Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
