Job Summary

The Shasta Community Health Center is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to provide direct and indirect support to our clinicians in the delivery of patient care. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in preparing exam rooms, charting patient information, and performing diagnostic tests under the supervision of our clinicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, and measure vital signs
  • Collect and record patient data, and basic information about presenting and previous conditions
  • Prepare the exam room and workstation for clinicians, clean and stock rooms in between patients
  • Assure efficient patient flow by ongoing assessment of clinician schedule and working with other staff to minimize patient waiting time
  • Administer injections, including immunizations, after verification by RN or clinician
  • Administer medications orally, sublingually, topically, vaginally, or rectally, after verification by RN or clinician
  • Perform diagnostic and laboratory tests, including audiometry, EKG, spirometry, and in-house CLIA-waived tests according to SCHC competency standards and protocols
  • Collect, by non-invasive techniques, and preserve specimens for testing, including urine, sputum, semen, and stool
  • Perform age-appropriate screening as needed or as directed by clinician, including visual acuity
  • Remove sutures and/or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations
  • Apply and remove bandages and dressings to superficial incisions or lacerations
  • Apply orthopedic appliances, such as knee immobilizers, envelope slings, orthotics, and similar devices
  • Obtain impressions for orthotics, padding, and custom-molded shoes
  • Select and adjust crutches, and instruct patients in proper use
  • Perform ear lavage to remove impacted cerumen
  • Assist patients in ambulation and transfers
  • Cut the nails of otherwise healthy patients
  • Provide patient information and instructions
  • Assure all documents for scanning contain patient identification
  • Perform end-of-shift tasks for room closure, clean equipment, and log off EHR
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program
  • Current CPR/BLS upon hire and maintain current
  • Certification as Medical Assistant (preferred)
  • Previous experience working in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office (preferred)
