The role of a Civil Construction Cost Estimator is pivotal in assessing the financial requirements for infrastructure development projects. This position entails gathering project proposals, architectural plans, specifications, and relevant documentation to formulate accurate cost estimates and budgets from the inception of the project. The estimator will oversee the bidding process with subcontractors and continuously update financial projections as the design evolves.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive cost assessments for civil engineering projects.
  • Examine project documentation, including plans and specifications, to create detailed estimates.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and team members to ensure competitive and precise bids.
  • Conduct site evaluations to collect essential data for accurate cost estimation.
  • Assess and compare quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Identify risks and opportunities within project bids and formulate strategies to mitigate them.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed bid proposals to project stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update cost estimation databases and tools.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and best practices to ensure accuracy in estimates.
  • Analyze labor, materials, equipment, and time requirements by reviewing proposals and contract documents.
  • Execute precise quantity takeoffs and establish subcontractor work parameters.
  • Draft organized and accurate cost estimates for the complete scope of work in line with standards.
  • Engage in daily communication with general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, while collaborating with engineers and project representatives.
  • Ensure ongoing communication with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Develop project timelines.
  • Organize and negotiate subcontractor quotations to align with contract specifications.
  • Meet with clients and professionals to discuss service options as necessary.
  • Maintain a database of unit pricing for materials and labor costs.
  • Establish original budgets and track costs for monthly reporting.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience as a Civil Construction Estimator within the construction sector.
  • Thorough understanding of civil construction methodologies, materials, and cost estimation practices.
  • Capability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints effectively.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and precision.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours, including weekends.
