Student Support Specialist for Extracurricular Activities

Position Overview: The Student Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students who require educational and behavioral support under the guidance of the special education team. This position may also involve providing essential services to help students with personal care, mobility, and therapeutic needs as outlined by healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in achieving their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, focusing on areas such as mathematics, literacy, communication, and social skills.
  • Facilitate teacher-led educational activities, including lesson execution, resource preparation, and group engagement.
  • Assist students integrated into general education settings, ensuring their active participation.
  • Communicate relevant information to educators regarding student progress and needs.
  • Supervise students during breaks and lunchtime, fostering a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student-related matters.
  • Implement prescribed programs in collaboration with related service professionals, such as occupational and speech therapists.
  • Encourage the development of independent living skills through daily self-care routines.
  • Support behavior management strategies as directed by educational staff.
  • Assist educators with administrative tasks, including material preparation and classroom organization.
  • Provide physical assistance to students as necessary.
  • Report any significant changes in student behavior or needs as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Adherence to professional standards and practices.
  • Completion of relevant training programs as required.
  • Current CPR certification, if applicable.
  • Health documentation as mandated by state regulations.
  • Ability to comply with all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, with proficiency in English.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
