Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Apprentice Line Worker to join our team at the City of Albany, GA. As an Apprentice Line Worker, you will be responsible for operating light equipment and performing manual work functions associated with construction, repair, and maintenance of Electrical Power distribution systems, substations, generators, telecommunications systems, lines, and related equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools used in construction, maintenance, and repair of power distribution systems.
  • Perform routine general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
  • Monitor equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety.
  • Report faulty equipment.
  • Perform manual work functions associated with maintaining right-of-ways, ditches, and holding ponds.
  • Assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing underground and overhead structures, including high mast lighting and street light systems, poles, cables, and related equipment.
  • Operate a two-way radio in the performance of duties.
  • Transport, load, and unload various equipment and materials used in projects.
  • Maintain adequate supply of equipment, tools, supplies, and materials on trucks for use at work sites.
  • Utilize precautionary work methods and safety equipment to ensure crew and public safety.
  • Respond to routine requests for information from employees, officials, the public, or other individuals.
  • Install, maintain, and remove decorations and lights during holiday seasons.
  • Assist with manual tasks associated with the installation and maintenance of the Fiber Optic telecommunications system.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 6 to 12 months previous experience and/or training operating light equipment required.
  • Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements preferred or ability to obtain within a six-month orientation period.
  • CPR training required.
