About the Role:
This position is based in Houston, TX and offers a paid relocation package.
As a Customs Brokerage Manager for TQL Global, you will lead a team of customs brokers and entry writers to ensure timely and accurate clearance of goods through customs. This includes managing daily operations, compliance, problem-solving, and serving as a senior customs point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of the customs brokerage department and support staff.
- Develop, implement, and drive continuous improvement to deliver a high-quality customer experience.
- Ensure that key performance indicators (KPIs) are met or exceeded.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements.
- Develop and implement efficient customs clearance processes to ensure shipments are managed against appropriate timelines and expectations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing expert advice on customs compliance, classification, valuation, and documentation requirements.
- Monitor changes in customs regulations and industry trends and update internal policies and procedures accordingly.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to compliance standards.
- Collaborate with internal departments, such as logistics, finance, and legal, to streamline cross-border trade processes and resolve issues effectively.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customs authorities, freight forwarders, carriers, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Provide training and guidance to team members to enhance their knowledge and skills in customs brokerage operations.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in customs brokerage, with at least 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Customs Broker license preferred but not required.
- In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, import/export laws, and trade compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership abilities with a focus on team building, mentorship, and performance management.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in customs brokerage software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Bachelor's degree in international trade, logistics, business administration, or equivalent experience preferred.
