Portland, Oregon, United States Metropolitan Public Defender Service Inc Full time
Job Overview

Metropolitan Public Defender Service Inc has been a pioneer in public defense since its establishment in 1971. As a non-profit legal entity, we engage with the State of Oregon to provide essential public defense services. We were the first organization to operate under this model and currently stand as the largest single provider of trial-level public defense services within Oregon, operating across multiple counties.

We are currently seeking a Financial Operations Coordinator. This role is pivotal in overseeing the internal funding initiation process and ensuring the integration of compatible coding across our accounting, payroll, and case management systems. The Financial Operations Coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining budgets within the accounting framework for our service contracts with various nonprofit and governmental organizations, updating them as amendments are received. This position operates under the general supervision of the Controller.

This role offers a competitive salary of $68,423.00 annually. Employment is at-will, and this is a full-time, non-exempt position that requires in-person attendance. In addition to salary, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical (options for PPO or HDHP), Dental (PPO Standard or PPO Enhanced), and Vision – fully covered for employee-only plans.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Basic Life, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Accidental Death & Dismemberment – all fully covered by the employer.
  • 401(K) plan with a 6% employer contribution, fully vested after five years of service.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) – 24 hours upon hire, accruing to 80 hours annually, with increases to 120 hours after two years.
  • 10 paid holidays plus 2 floating holidays (one in summer and one in winter).
  • 4 Mental Health Days each year.
  • Sick Leave – 48 hours upon hire, with an additional 48 hours after six months, accruing 96 hours on each service anniversary.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in an Accounts Receivable or accounting role is preferred.
  • Experience with grants, particularly federal funding, is advantageous.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and effective time management abilities.
  • Exceptional mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with ADP and NetSuite software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar applications.

Work Environment:

  • We promote a workplace culture that is friendly, collaborative, and respectful.
  • This role involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds may be required.

Application Process:

  • Interested candidates should submit a current resume along with a cover letter detailing their interest in the position and commitment to supporting public defense initiatives.

Diversity and Inclusion: At Metropolitan Public Defender Service Inc, we embrace diversity and strive to create a culture of dignity and respect for all staff members.

We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, military status, national origin, or any other characteristic protected under applicable laws.
