The Chinese American Service League (CASL) is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and skilled Culinary Arts Educator to spearhead our Culinary Training Program (CTP). Your Contribution:

As the Culinary Arts Educator, you will be instrumental in the Culinary Training Program. Reporting to the Director of Adult Services, you will collaborate closely with the Culinary Support Specialist and the Adult Employment Team to create and develop job opportunities for our students. You will also coordinate with the Chef Coordinator and Food Service Supervisor to manage kitchen schedules and procure ingredients for classes.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruct and Guide: Provide coaching, instruction, and mentorship to CTP students, ensuring they receive high-quality culinary training.

Conduct Classes: Deliver engaging culinary training sessions and oversee schedules for guest chef instructors.

Collaborate: Partner with the Chef Coordinator, Culinary Support Specialist, and employment counselors to assess students' skills, recruit qualified candidates, and evaluate their readiness for employment.

Event Coordination: Assist in organizing special events such as open houses, staff lunches, and bake sales.

Material Development: Support the Chef Coordinator in creating instructional materials and drafting syllabi for the training program.

Job Placement Support: Help identify job leads and collaborate with the Job Developer to share opportunities.

Professional Development: Stay informed about the latest culinary trends and workplace safety regulations to ensure ongoing professional growth.

Procurement Assistance: Aid in purchasing and ordering necessary supplies for the program.

Record Management: Work with the Culinary Specialist to complete required documentation and maintain student records.

Community Outreach: Communicate agency policies and services to individuals and the broader community.

Special Initiatives: Participate in agency fundraising events and other special projects.

Data Entry: Enter client efforts and case notes into CASL's Salesforce database as required.

Qualifications:

To excel in this position, you should possess:

Education/Experience:
  • A high school diploma and completion of a culinary school program, or equivalent B.A. level training.
  • A current Sanitation License.
  • A minimum of five years of professional cooking or teaching experience.
Skills/Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Ability to learn and utilize Salesforce.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to bend and lift at least 15 pounds.
  • Capability to frequently sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
Work Environment:
  • Teaching hours are between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, totaling 29 hours per week.
  • Free parking is available.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in the Chinese language.
