Protection and Control Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Protection and Control Engineer to join our Energy team in Rochester, New York. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing protection and control engineering on various substation projects, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities- Perform detailed reviews of existing protection schemes to incorporate into new design, focusing on anti-islanding schemes, generator intertie settings, and SPS schemes.
- Lead overall protection design for capital projects, defining relay protection functionality and scheme in accordance with AVANGRID TM standards.
- Review contractor-provided relay settings, logic diagrams, and operational descriptions for capital projects.
- Review and perform area relay coordination to determine the required level of coordination.
- Review contractor-provided relay settings for temporary builds and construction sequence steps.
- Provide design support during implementation, testing, and commissioning of protection systems.
- Collaborate with the Owner to refine design practices and ensure compliance with TM standards.
- Ensure accurate documentation of as-built systems and filing in the plant location.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in relay/protection settings engineering.
- IEC 61850/Goose experience required.
- 5-10 years of experience in utility projects.
