About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Protection and Control Engineer to join our Energy team in Rochester, New York. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing protection and control engineering on various substation projects, from 34.5kV to 765 kV voltage level, for local and domestic clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed reviews of existing protection schemes to ensure seamless integration into new designs, focusing on anti-islanding schemes, generator intertie settings, and SPS schemes.
  • Lead overall protection design for capital projects, defining relay protection functionality and schemes in accordance with AVANGRID TM standards.
  • Review contractor-provided relay settings, logic diagrams, and operational descriptions for capital projects, ensuring compliance with AVANGRID TM standards.
  • Conduct area relay coordination and determine the required level of coordination based on changes in fault duty and system performance.
  • Review contractor-provided relay settings for temporary builds and construction sequence steps, including mobile settings.
  • Provide design support during implementation, testing, and commissioning of protection and control systems.
  • Collaborate with the Owner to refine TM standards and design practices.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of as-built information in the plant filing location.
  • Lead overall automation and integration design for capital projects, including SCADA point indexes, HMI screens, and IED Data Maps.
  • Review and design protection settings, settings basis, and substation-level operational descriptions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in relay/protection settings engineering, with a focus on utility projects.
  • IEC 61850/Goose experience required.
