Position Overview:

The Radiation Therapist, under the general oversight of a Radiation Oncologist, executes radiation therapy techniques on both outpatient and inpatient individuals as directed by a physician or other licensed healthcare provider for the diagnosis of ailments and injuries, adhering to established protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administers high-quality radiation therapy procedures in accordance with exam protocols, ensuring timely execution.
  • Upholds the quality and productivity of imaging procedures by complying with established standards and practices.
  • Employs AIDET principles while interacting with patients to ascertain service requirements, confirm the correct procedure is performed on the appropriate patient, and build rapport.
  • Educates and communicates with patients and their families about the procedure, assessing the patient's capacity to undergo the exam.
  • Prepares the patient and the environment for the procedure by positioning the patient, adjusting immobilization devices, relocating equipment, and calibrating equipment controls to set exposure parameters.
  • Ensures the safety of patients and staff by adhering to safety protocols, infection control measures, and radiation policies.
  • Utilizes proper sterile techniques during the setup and execution of invasive multimodality procedures while maintaining hand hygiene standards.
  • Maintains equipment and workspaces to meet cleanliness and quality benchmarks.
  • Collaborates with engineers and physicists to guarantee optimal functionality of equipment, reporting any issues to management or the relevant department.
  • Assists in managing inventory of supplies.
  • Ensures safety protocols are followed for individuals entering the department by screening them according to approved policies.
  • Obtains, verifies, and maintains all pertinent documentation such as requisitions, patient histories, and consent forms.
  • Maintains medical imaging records in the appropriate systems according to departmental policies for timely interpretation.

  • Skilled in providing services efficiently and accurately while adhering to established standards and regulations.
  • Independent in performing tasks without the need for constant supervision.
  • Maintains composure and a helpful demeanor, even in stressful situations, taking appropriate steps to resolve issues.
  • Proficient in administering first aid and utilizing emergency equipment.
  • Ensures patient satisfaction by minimizing wait times and delivering courteous service.
  • Demonstrates ongoing knowledge and education in providing appropriate care for various age groups.
  • Serves as a mentor by providing quality training to new staff members.
  • Available for on-call duties, if necessary.
