Position Summary & Responsibilities

The Kansas Department for Children and Families is seeking a dedicated professional to provide protective and preventive services to at-risk families. As a Child Protection Specialist, you will:

  • Investigate allegations of abuse and neglect
  • Perform risk and safety assessments
  • Develop safety plans
  • Provide information about and referrals to community resources
  • Make appropriate referrals to contracted family preservation and foster care providers

As a Child Protective Investigator, you will be a member of the Joint Investigative Team and will:

  • Receive assignment reports of families in need of care
  • Develop an investigative plan in conjunction with the Child Protection Specialist

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Child Protection Specialist: Four-year degree in a Human Services or Behavioral Sciences field of study
  • Child Protective Investigator: Two years of investigation, fact-finding, or enforcing state or federal laws and regulations, or an Associate's Degree in social work, criminal justice, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred for this position:

  • Child Protection Specialist: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Master's degree in Professional Counseling, or Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, or a minimum of 2 years of work experience in Children and Family Services
  • Child Protective Investigator: Two years of experience in field investigative work as a law enforcement officer, corrections/parole officer, social worker, or special/private investigator, or a Bachelor's degree in social work, criminal justice, or a related field

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements

  • Security Clearance: A background check is required for all positions with the Department for Children and Families, which may include fingerprinting and an FBI check
  • Tax Clearance: A valid/current Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate must be submitted prior to employment
