We are in the process of establishing our inaugural dedicated Machine Learning Infrastructure team, tasked with developing and deploying innovative AI capabilities throughout Figma's offerings. You will play a pivotal role in building and leading a team responsible for the essential infrastructure that supports efficient model deployment and serves as a foundation for world-class tooling, enabling rapid iteration on models. Your approach will blend industry best practices with a foundational mindset to design and construct ML infrastructure that enhances Figma's design and collaboration tools.
This position is a full-time opportunity that can be performed remotely or from one of our designated hubs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee, mentor, and cultivate a diverse team of engineers focused on designing and constructing scalable services that underpin Figma's infrastructure.
- Architect infrastructure solutions for training, deploying, and serving models at scale.
- Collaborate closely with ML/AI leaders, engineers, and researchers to develop internal tools that facilitate model development and experimentation.
- Integrate industry best practices with a foundational approach to design and construct ML infrastructure.
- Promote best practices across the engineering team to maintain high code quality.
- Work alongside engineering leadership to define strategies, priorities, and objectives for teams and projects.
- Foster trust and accountability within and across teams, creating a positive work environment in collaboration with other organizational leaders.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing an engineering team of at least 5 individuals.
- At least 6 years of overall industry experience in building and scaling distributed systems and infrastructure components as a leader or individual contributor.
- Experience managing senior engineers with over 10 years of experience.
- Proven experience in developing large-scale online systems and infrastructure to support ML workflows, including training and serving.
- Ability to collaborate with ML engineers to understand their needs and deliver systems that enhance their productivity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience across the entire ML development lifecycle, including training, deployment, and serving.
- Experience in initiating or joining an early-stage ML infrastructure team or sub-team.
- Familiarity with models that support generative AI applications and/or large language models.
