Position Overview:

The 3rd Shift Technical Laboratory Supervisor plays a crucial role in the management of our clinical laboratory team, ensuring the smooth and precise execution of laboratory operations. This position involves overseeing the administrative functions of the laboratory sections and taking charge of daily activities to guarantee timely, accurate, and comprehensive laboratory services for healthcare providers and patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the laboratory, providing leadership, expertise, and direction to the staff. Supervise clinical laboratory testing, assess results, and ensure testing proficiency.
  • Guarantee adherence to quality, regulatory, accreditation, compliance, and competency standards. Ensure alignment with current policies, procedures, and standardization decisions.
  • Facilitate staff meetings to address employee feedback and customer service matters. Engage in relevant projects and committees.
  • Coordinate the orientation, training, and competency assessment of laboratory personnel and students.
  • Act as a resource for both internal and external clients regarding laboratory services. Serve as the primary communication link between the laboratory and management.
  • Assist management in the formulation, execution, and enhancement of laboratory policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Adhere to the quality plan by implementing and monitoring quality indicators. Review laboratory results for quality, accuracy, and validity, documenting and executing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance protocols for all laboratory equipment and direct corrective actions as needed. Stay informed about integrated computer systems relevant to laboratory operations.
  • Provide technical support to staff and perform, evaluate, and monitor clinical laboratory testing of biological specimens as required.
  • Handle human resources responsibilities for laboratory staff, including performance coaching, conducting performance evaluations, and maintaining overall staff morale. Recommend hiring, compensation adjustments, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations.
  • Understand and comply with the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct, ensuring that personal actions and those of supervised employees adhere to applicable policies, regulations, and laws.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical laboratory testing and service provision, with experience in a lead or senior role.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Leadership experience should encompass coordination of staff scheduling, workflow management, and multiple laboratory functions.
  • Familiarity with supply ordering and inventory management practices.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office applications or similar software.
