Charlotte, North Carolina, United States Bank of America Full time
Job Overview:

The Modern Developer Experience (DevEx) team at Bank of America is responsible for establishing enterprise-level technical standards and providing essential technical services, platforms, and tools utilized by delivery teams across various business lines. Our mission is to spearhead the design of these common services, platforms, and tools within our portfolio. With a strong commitment to both individual deliverables and overarching value stream objectives, we engage in several key functions, including:
  • Enhancing the developer experience to facilitate the delivery of top-tier solutions while ensuring efficient work management and appropriate controls.
  • Driving innovation to advance our technology platforms.
  • Mitigating risks and enhancing quality across our technology portfolio by adhering to a unified enterprise architecture strategy and implementing governance that fosters consistency, integration, and automation.
This Principal Engineer position calls for a seasoned leader to drive a new, expedited program. The individual will be tasked with maximizing the value of an expanding program. Responsibilities encompass defining the engineering strategy and roadmap at the program/portfolio level to achieve significant business results, prioritizing features and epics in the program backlog, and effectively communicating these priorities to both stakeholders and development teams. The role involves close collaboration with stakeholders to comprehend their requirements and working alongside Product Owners to ensure alignment on priorities and financial considerations. Continuous improvement of design, quality, and operational efficiencies for solution support is essential.

The successful candidate must adeptly navigate Risk, Governance, Legal, Model Risk, and GIS reviews, guiding the team through these governance processes to ensure responsible delivery and risk mitigation. They will lead the planning, definition, and design of complex features that span multiple teams. Regular communication of key updates to bank stakeholders, prioritization of tasks, and leveraging knowledge of SDLC processes, architecture, and design will be critical.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in solution design across diverse technologies, with experience in leading comprehensive strategies and ensuring adherence and integration across teams and products.
  • Ability to formulate frameworks for addressing a variety of complex challenges, anticipating future issues and identifying resolutions or new opportunities.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-business and technology stakeholders to design architectures that align with business objectives and technology strategies, focusing on enhancing collaborative capabilities.
  • Capacity to identify risks and dependencies, quantifying their impact on business and technology, and determining appropriate controls for resolution.
  • Proficiency in driving adoption, refining SDLC processes, and designing, developing, and implementing solutions for CI/CD processes and tools.
  • Adept at tracking program and multiple value stream variances to ensure alignment with program objectives.
  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of other teams involved in the lifecycle, engaging as necessary.
  • Ability to recognize business and technical opportunities, including product innovation, cost reduction, and process enhancement.
  • Capability to discern the governance requirements for work products, defining stakeholders and strategic objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with banking testing practices and tools.
  • Understanding and compliance with design, branding, and accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of data management practices and technologies.
This role is pivotal in defining and leading the engineering strategy for solutions at the program or portfolio level, aiming to deliver substantial business outcomes. Key responsibilities include ongoing enhancement of design, quality, and reusability of solutions, as well as delivering technological enablers that improve development efficiencies. Job expectations include familiarity with at least one engineering domain, serving as a reference across the organization, and applying expertise to elevate technical competencies through recruitment and development initiatives.
