The Arc Prince George's County is dedicated to supporting over 600 individuals with disabilities through a diverse range of programs and services. Our focus is on community living, personal and family support, employment services, and day programs, all aimed at fostering inclusion and person-centered community engagement.
Role Summary:
The Arc is looking for a dedicated Life & Community Advocate who will provide a broad spectrum of individualized support and services, emphasizing personal choice for individuals with developmental disabilities. This role involves advocating for individuals, encouraging their independence, and teaching essential life skills while ensuring their health, safety, and community integration.
Core Responsibilities:
- Assist individuals in expressing their choices and preferences, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Utilize keen observation skills to mentor and guide individuals in their daily activities.
- Promote community inclusion by engaging individuals in various community activities.
- Support individuals in developing daily living skills and maintaining a safe and healthy living environment.

- Advocacy: Empower individuals to express their dreams and rights.
- Communication: Foster effective communication by actively listening and collaborating with individuals and their support networks.
- Relationship Building: Create opportunities for meaningful connections and friendships within an inclusive setting.
Daily Activities:
In this role, you will:
- Facilitate person-centered planning and assist with daily program activities.
- Transport individuals to community experiences, ensuring their engagement and safety.
- Document daily activities and follow up on necessary reports.
Essential Functions:
Preparation for Change:
- Plan and prepare individuals for upcoming changes in their routines.
- Identify and introduce activities aligned with individuals' interests.
- Teach necessary skills for success in both facility and community settings.
Community Integration:
- Support individuals in identifying and planning community experiences tailored to their needs.
- Implement person-centered plans to achieve community involvement goals.
- Teach essential community living skills, such as money management and social interactions.
Health and Personal Care:
- Assist individuals with daily living activities and personal care needs.
- Ensure a safe environment and respond to health-related concerns promptly.
Documentation and Communication:
- Maintain accurate records of activities and behaviors in the Electronic Health Record System.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
