The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) serves as the state's social services agency, overseeing vital services aimed at ensuring child safety, fostering, adoption, and addressing domestic violence, mental health, and substance abuse issues.

Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the primary authority for substance abuse and mental health services.

The Office of SAMH is responsible for the strategic planning, evaluation, and execution of a comprehensive statewide care system focused on the prevention, treatment, and recovery of individuals with serious mental health or substance use disorders.

Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a licensed mental health treatment facility that provides individualized services to adults facing severe and persistent mental health challenges.

This position entails serving as a Registered Nurse Specialist (Lead) in Infection Control at Northeast Florida State Hospital, a highly responsible role that requires collaboration across various facility sections.

The successful candidate will demonstrate independent judgment, initiative, and meticulous attention to detail in executing their responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the representative for the Infection Control Department in the absence of the Infection Control Director.
  • Identify and assess situations that may pose risks to patients and staff.
  • Develop timely interventions to mitigate identified risks.
  • Maintain active HIV 501 certification and ensure compliance with Infection Control Policies & Procedures.
  • Oversee the creation and interpretation of medical/nursing standards related to Infection Control.
  • Conduct program effectiveness studies hospital-wide to ensure adherence to care standards.
  • Stay informed about current trends and regulations in Infection Control to optimize patient satisfaction.
  • Manage data related to patient and employee screenings, counseling, and testing.
  • Conduct ongoing surveillance and reporting of facility-acquired infections.
  • Perform risk assessments for construction projects and coordinate vaccination efforts.
  • Document all relevant information accurately in medical records and databases.
  • Collaborate with Primary Care Physicians and Pharmacy Departments to enhance treatment efficiency.
  • Provide education on infectious diseases to patients and staff.
  • Assist in overseeing clinic operations across various specialties.
  • Manage inventory and supplies for clinic operations.
  • Compile and distribute monthly statistical data for performance assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464.
  • Two years of professional nursing experience or a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.
  • Two years of supervisory or administrative experience.
  • HIV 501 Certification is required.
  • Five or more years of experience in Infectious Disease or Public Health nursing.
  • Experience in developing and implementing infection control protocols.
