About the Role

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a highly skilled Underground Transmission Engineer to join our Transmission and Distribution Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in underground transmission design, mentoring and developing team members, and executing design work with engineering judgment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership for underground transmission design teams on projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV
  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members
  • Independently execute design work with engineering judgment
  • Perform quality reviews
  • Identify and communicate changes to project scope to engineering lead and project manager
  • Provide input and adhere to project schedules
  • Understand project budget
  • Identify and communicate technical risks associated with projects
  • Identify, develop, and communicate processes and tools to increase efficiency across team and department
  • Create, improve, facilitate, and teach training courses to the project team and department
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program
  • Basic knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques, principles, and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and civil analysis programs
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred
