We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team at Burns & McDonnell. As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and consulting on substation engineering projects for clients across the US and internationally. Your expertise will be essential in creating electrical protection and control design deliverables, as well as physical substation design, including yard layouts, plans, sections, and details.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare proposals and scope development, including conceptual designs and execution plans.
• Prepare engineering cost and labor estimates and schedules.
• Design high-voltage (13kV-500kV) electrical substations, including yard layouts, plans, sections, and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material.
• Design protection and control systems, including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.
• Prepare calculations and reports for engineering studies (grounding, lightning protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.).
• Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.
• Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, others).
• Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.
• Regularly meet with and correspond with clients or outside personnel.
• Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
• Provide short-term field support during construction.
• Support business development and marketing initiatives.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum 3 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience).
• Completion of FE exam strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI Standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected compensation range for this position is $120,000.00-165,000.00 Annually. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
