Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Distributed Energy Resources (DER) engineer to join our team. As a DER engineer, you will be responsible for processing net metering and wholesale interconnection applications, providing leadership and support for our rapidly evolving electrical system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe workplace for coworkers and the community by identifying potential hazards and adhering to industry regulations and requirements.
  • Work safely in accordance with the Company's Accident Prevention Handbook.
  • Provide exceptional service, continuous support, and proactive involvement in DER-related topics to leadership and peers.
  • Utilize standard planning and protection tools, such as Microsoft Office tools, CYME Distribution, CYME Time-Current Characteristic Current, Load Forecasting Data Management System, SAP, GISView, PI Process Book, and PI Datalink.
  • Complete and provide guidance for DER-related interconnection studies and necessary circuit modifications for safe and reliable interconnection of DER generators.
  • Support and manage large net metered interconnections.
  • Process interconnection applications for all levels of interconnection applications and provide technical support for peers.
  • Perform technical reviews and complete interconnection studies for customer distributed generation applications.
  • Provide leadership and strategic support for supplemental contractors supporting DER functions.
  • Conduct technical research analysis and offer an interpretation of the results.
  • Contribute to solutions by developing alternatives and recommendations.
  • Offer ideas and suggestions to improve moderately complex technical processes and/or projects.
  • Provide sound customer service by exceeding internal and external customer needs.
  • Consistently anticipate and deliver results on a variety of job-specific matters.
  • Develop process improvements and efficiencies to improve work products and processes.
  • Support the storm response process, including support outside of standard business hours.
  • Provide field and equipment audit and commissioning support as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution or acceptable alternatives.
  • Successful completion of the FE exam considered a plus.
  • Previous experience in DER interconnection review and/or distribution planning and protection job functions preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Teams, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience with CYME, LFDMS, EMS, TOAD/SQL, and GISView is a plus.
  • Able to lead by example and coach others in effective decision making.
  • Able to analyze data, write technical reports, develop work packages to implement recommendations, and handle multiple assignments.
  • Willing to travel throughout the service territory and work extra and/or irregular hours.
  • Understanding of electrical engineering and utility power system concepts with the ability to learn new complex electrical topics quickly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on understandable and clear technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Possess strong knowledge, maturity, and decision-making skills regarding electrical problems and analyzing complex information.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and able to understand and interpret complex technical information.
  • Ability to work both independently and in team environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Self-motivated and a self-starter, customer-focused, results-oriented, and a team player.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude and desire to continue to learn, produce results, and develop relationships with other departments and customers.
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
