Financial Specialist

Arizona State University is seeking a highly skilled Financial Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will be responsible for coordinating financial activities, ensuring adherence to unit and university policies, practices, and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Investigate financial discrepancies and work with the unit and financial services to resolve issues.
- Review account expenditures and prepare documentation for audits.
- Prepare journal entries, general ledger expense transfers, payroll redistributions, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare budget adjustments and amendments.
- Review requisitions for completeness and accuracy, identify sources, obtain quotes, and negotiate price and terms, issue purchase orders.
- Perform clerical functions with personal computers and appropriate software for various financial processes.
- Maintain financial files consistent with University policies and practices.
- Participate in departmental, unit, and university-wide initiatives and meetings to represent financial interests and ensure integration/collaborative support of unit and university-wide interests.
- Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND one (1) year of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements, laws, and standards.
- Knowledge of quality customer service standards, methods, and practices.
- Knowledge of basic financial practices, regulations, and standards.
- Skill in planning, analyzing, and establishing priorities.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Experience in effective communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities, sensitive information, and short deadlines.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships both within and across organizational areas.
- Ability to lead by example in communicating, participating, and encouraging support of the institution's sustainability programs.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty and staff.
