Key Responsibilities- Assist veterinarians during appointments, surgical procedures, and client education in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Conduct initial assessments of pets' health and inform the veterinarian about the purpose of the visit, necessary preventative care, and any client inquiries.
- Collect and prepare laboratory samples as requested by the veterinarian, including urine, fecal, and ear cytology.
- Promptly communicate lab results to the veterinarian.
- Safely and compassionately restrain animals during examinations and procedures.
- Prepare and organize for surgical interventions while adhering to sterile field standards.
- Monitor the recovery of surgical patients and update pet owners as per hospital guidelines.
- Accurately prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the veterinarian, ensuring proper documentation in the pet's medical record and billing to the client.
- Understand vaccination protocols within the facility and administer vaccines under the veterinarian's supervision.
- Observe hospitalized animals and carry out treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Utilize hospital management systems to maintain medical records and communicate effectively with clients and team members.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Technician is essential.
- Availability for a flexible schedule, including some weekends and holidays.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle stressful situations are crucial.
- While comprehensive training on medical procedures and animal handling will be provided, excellent communication skills, a sense of urgency, and teamwork are mandatory.
- Dependability, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn are required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is necessary.
