Job Description

This position requires a unique blend of investigative skills, training expertise, and interpersonal abilities. As a Child Protective Investigations Lead Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting specialized investigations of child abuse and neglect cases, providing consultation and training to staff, and developing effective working relationships with law enforcement professionals and community stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Conducts specialized investigations of child abuse and neglect cases, ensuring thorough documentation and adherence to department standards.
  2. Serves as a resource and trainer to DFPS Staff on forensic interview skills and techniques, promoting best practices in investigation and case management.
  3. Identifies and provides for staff development and training needs in the area of forensic child abuse and neglect investigation, enhancing quality performance and unit efficiency.
  4. Develops and maintains communication and working relationships within and outside the agency, particularly with professionals associated with law enforcement investigations.
  5. Provides expert consultation to DFPS staff and the community on complex issues related to forensic child abuse and neglect investigations, contributing to the development of innovative solutions and best practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • Extensive knowledge of Texas criminal and civil law relating to child abuse and neglect.
  • Expertise in forensic interviewing techniques, with a focus on gathering accurate information from child witnesses.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess family dynamics and identify risk factors.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings to stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, law enforcement partners, and community members.
