Job Summary

The Cook County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Correctional Officer to join our team. As a Correctional Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor the behavior of individuals in custody, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Enforce rules and regulations, maintaining order and discipline within the facility.
  • Conduct regular rounds to inspect conditions, check for security breaches, and ensure all individuals in custody are accounted for.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals in custody, staff, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and address concerns.
  • Perform searches, inspections, and security checks to detect and confiscate contraband or unauthorized items.
  • Transport individuals in custody to and from court, medical appointments, and other facilities, ensuring their safety and security.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and logs to document incidents, events, and activities.
  • Participate in training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in areas such as crisis management, de-escalation techniques, and emergency response.
Requirements
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License or State Identification Card.
  • Possession of a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card (F.O.I.D.) or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to work any shift, including days, afternoons, or midnights, and be available for mandatory overtime.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation, including a thorough review of employment history, education, and personal references.
Working Conditions

The Correctional Officer will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, interacting with individuals in custody, staff, and other stakeholders. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The Correctional Officer will be required to wear a uniform and follow all facility policies and procedures.
