Position Overview:

The Early Childhood Educator is tasked with delivering exceptional educational experiences and providing quality childcare while parents engage in significant activities at the Early Head Start (EHS) center. This role involves crafting and presenting engaging lessons tailored to the needs of enrolled children. The educator is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming childcare environment that fosters positive parent/child interactions and outstanding educational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Designs and implements educational activities that are culturally responsive, attachment-focused, and trauma-informed in a supportive setting utilizing best practices.
  2. Works collaboratively with the Child Development Coordinator and Mentor to develop lesson plans, classroom strategies, set educational objectives for individuals and groups, and create daily care plans based on the Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold framework.
  3. Assists in executing parent-child attachment interventions (e.g., A Good Good-Bye, Family Tradition Groups).
  4. Establishes and promotes child development goals in alignment with family partnership agreements and Teaching Strategies Gold observations.
  5. Creates, organizes, and prepares instructional materials for the classroom.
  6. Ensures timely completion of all center classroom documentation (e.g., daily checklists, logs, child observations, assessment tools, and progress notes).
  7. Conducts weekly assessments of assigned children using the Teaching Strategies Gold online platform.
  8. Administers child development screenings (ASQ & ASQ-SE, DECA-IT).
  9. Completes quarterly evaluations and parent conferences for each child in the Teaching Strategies Gold online system.
  10. Maintains a clean and secure classroom environment.
  11. Engages in respectful communication with parents regarding their child's progress, needs, and concerns.
  12. Adheres to all Office of Child Care licensing standards and EHS Performance Standards.
  13. Conducts a minimum of two home visits each year.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry a minimum weight of 25 pounds and carry small children as needed.
  2. Capability to bend, squat, and work within child-sized spaces.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a ninety-hour Early Childhood Education Certificate is required.
  • A forty-five-hour Infant Toddler Certificate is necessary.
  • Child Development Associate credential (CDA) must be obtained within three months of employment.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid is mandatory.

Education:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • An Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development is preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of supervised classroom experience working directly with children aged birth to three years is required.
  • Experience in daycare settings is preferred.
