The Sleep Study Technologist is responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments of sleep disorders as directed by medical professionals. This role involves the operation of specialized diagnostic equipment used in the evaluation and treatment of sleep-related conditions. The technologist may also be tasked with calibrating necessary apparatus and making appropriate adjustments to ensure accurate testing outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer sleep studies with precision and adherence to safety protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians to establish testing parameters and methodologies.
- Evaluate and score sleep/wake cycles effectively.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all procedures conducted.
- Supervise complex and atypical testing scenarios.
- Ensure compliance with the standards set forth by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
- May provide guidance to junior Polysomnographic Technicians.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to focus and make swift, informed decisions with a high degree of expertise and accuracy.
- Capability to operate independently without direct supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and may be required to work additional hours with minimal notice.
- A minimum of three years of experience in the role of a Polysomnographic Technologist is required, with pediatric sleep experience being advantageous.
- Must possess a valid registry in good standing from one of the recognized credentialing bodies:
- The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT)
- The American Board of Sleep Medicine (RST)
- The National Board of Respiratory Care (SDS)
