Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. Key Responsibilities

  • Under indirect supervision, perform a variety of diagnostic medical sonograms, including abdominal and OB/Gynecology ultrasound examinations, utilizing complex ultrasound equipment and transducers.
  • Improve complete to sign Diagnostic Imaging Report Turnaround Time for outpatients.
  • Improve telephone response time to meet the established regional TSF (telephone service factor) standard of 80% of incoming calls answered within 2 minutes.
  • Support the Bend-the-Trend program by reducing NPR expenses by greater than 5%.
  • Improve ultrasound access.
  • Be responsive to the needs of others by maintaining a professional behavior toward members and coworkers and creating a positive image for the department.
  • Model and reinforce ethical behavior in self and others in accordance to the Principles of Responsibility.
  • Identify the impact of cultural diversity and lifestyle choices on patient condition and make accommodations for such differences.
  • Demonstrate competency and understand the overall operational functions of the department to include all reception duties and cashier functions.
  • Adjust technical factors relative to the requirements of the study and the physical maturation of the patient.
  • Modify patient positioning techniques relative to the patients physical and cognitive abilities.
  • Take special care in handling, positioning and/or restraining infants and geriatric patients to avoid injury or excessive radiation exposure.
  • Process hard copy images properly, utilizing automated equipment.
  • Follow specific infection control techniques relative to ultrasound imaging.
  • Routinely manipulate transducer appropriately to obtain the desired images.
  • Exercise good clinical judgment.
  • Consult with the radiologist or other clinician for purposes of clarifying orders.
  • Select alternate or additional views appropriately relative to the patients condition.
  • Document clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive and accurate manner.
  • Complete and initial the standard consultation form and the Radiology Processing Record accurately and immediately following each procedure.
  • Document patient history relative to previous surgery, childbirth and other conditions which could affect the ultrasonic image of internal organs.
  • Observe all applicable regional, medical center, and department policies and procedures.
  • Maintain standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service.
  • Communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Respond appropriately to constructive criticism from supervisors and peers.
  • Function independently within defined scope of position.
  • Meet productivity norms achieved by peers within the department or the Region.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies and work area in accordance with department guidelines.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean at all times.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to supervisory staff promptly.
Requirements
  • One (1) year of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in a major medical center.
  • Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited ultrasound program or a graduate from a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with current ARDMS certification.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Basic Life Support within 4 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years' experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in a major medical center.
  • Experience with Acuson Sequoia, Philips iu-22 and Clickview ultrasound reporting package.
