Job Overview

The Body Shop Manager is responsible for developing business through insurance adjusters, customers, and other sources to ensure an adequate sales volume. This role provides department operating profit in accordance with dealership and corporate established goals, maintains customer satisfaction standards while controlling expenses. The Body Shop Manager directs the activities of body shop employees in performing body repairs, including meeting time schedules and productivity levels, and maintaining quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs and Schedules Work: Directs and schedules the work of all body shop employees to ensure efficient use of resources and meet productivity goals.
  • Forecasts Goals and Objectives: Forecasts goals and objectives for the department to ensure alignment with dealership and corporate objectives.
  • Prepares and Administers Budget: Prepares and administers an annual operating budget for the body shop to ensure effective financial management.
  • Implements Marketing Plan: Implements an aggressive marketing plan to increase body shop business and attract new customers.
  • Monitors Productivity: Monitors technicians' daily productivity reports and corresponding payroll records to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Establishes Relationships: Establishes and maintains good working relationships with insurance adjusters and customers to encourage repeat business.
  • Provides Estimates: Provides fair estimates on costs and time required for body work to customers.
  • Ensures Quality: Ensures that quality standards are maintained in all body repairs and that all work is completed to the highest standards.
  • Handles Customer Complaints: Handles customer complaints immediately and according to company policy to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Monitors Paper Flow: Monitors paper flow to ensure that all documents are accounted for, filled out completely and legibly, and filed or distributed to the appropriate parties.
  • Prepares Final Billing: Prepares final billing for completed repair orders to ensure accurate and timely payment.
  • Controls Accounts Receivable: Controls accounts receivable for body repair work to ensure timely payment and minimize bad debt.
  • Complies with Regulations: Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, including hazardous waste disposal, emergency response, and OSHA Right-to-Know.
  • Ensures Safety: Ensures that proper safety equipment is available and being used by all employees in the body shop to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Facilitates Training: Facilitates and/or conducts technical training to ensure that employees have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Monitors Maintenance: Monitors the maintenance of paint booths, frame straightening equipment, and other large fixed assets to ensure long-term usage and value.
  • Stays Up-to-Date: Keeps abreast of new equipment and tools available and recommends purchases to ensure that the body shop has the necessary resources to perform its functions effectively.
  • Maintains Cleanliness: Ensures that the work areas and customer waiting area are kept clean and organized to provide a positive customer experience.
  • Follows Company Policies: Follows all attendance and punctuality standards, adheres to timekeeping standards, and follows the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct.
  • Upholds Company Values: Upholds the company's non-disclosure and confidentiality policies and agreements, and maintains a professional appearance for self and subordinates in accordance with company policy.
