About the Role

The University of Dayton is seeking a highly experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Executive Director of the Materials Sector. This pivotal position plays a crucial role in advancing the University's mission of research excellence and technological advancement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic direction and operational excellence of the Materials Sector, driving innovation and collaboration to achieve business growth and research execution.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive plans to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, defining goals and metrics, and coordinating with other sectors and business offices.
  • Oversee the sector's research portfolios, monitoring contract execution, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing changes to achieve strategic goals.
  • Identify and engage high-value clients to form strategic partnerships, developing and implementing innovative technical solutions in support of the client's mission.
  • Manage the sector business and financial management operations, including coordination with the Research Institute's central business operations.
  • Coordinate business development and marketing opportunities across the Research Institute.
  • Foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and diversity, promoting servant leadership principles and empowering employees through resources, clear expectations, and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 18 years of experience related to the research, development, application, and/or transition of advanced technologies.
  • Minimum 7 years of senior-level supervisory experience, with a staff of more than 30, including professional, technical, or administrative staff.
  • Experience in attracting, leading, and coordinating large and complex research programs.
  • Experience working collaboratively on diverse teams and with external partners and customers.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Valid driver's license, with a low risk driving record, and insurable by the University.
