Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to serve as the Executive Director of our Digital and Systems Engineering Sector. This pivotal position will be responsible for leading the sector's strategic direction and operational excellence, driving innovation, collaboration, business growth, and research execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive plans to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Define goals and metrics, coordinate with other sectors and business offices, and ensure compliance with established processes
  • Oversee the sector's research portfolios, monitoring contract execution, including profit and loss, and identifying areas for improvement
  • Identify and engage high-value clients to form strategic partnerships and develop innovative technical solutions
  • Manage the sector's business and financial management operations, including coordination with the Research Institute's central business operations
  • Coordinate business development and marketing opportunities across the Research Institute
  • Foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and diversity, promoting servant leadership principles and empowering employees through resources, clear expectations, and professional development
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum 18 years of experience related to research, development, application, and/or transition of advanced technologies
  • Minimum 7 years of senior-level supervisory experience, with a staff of more than 30, including professional, technical, or administrative staff
  • Experience in attracting, leading, and coordinating large and complex research programs
  • Experience working collaboratively on diverse teams and with external partners and customers
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a science, engineering, or technology field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in an organization of comparable size and complexity to the Sector
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior-level supervisory experience, with a staff of more than 50, including professional, technical, or administrative staff
  • Experience in attracting, leading, and coordinating large and complex research programs in excess of $25 million annually
  • Experience in strategic planning, business management, and business development, in an organization of similar size and complexity to the Sector
  • Experience with Federal government contracting
  • Experience managing profit and loss
  • Active Secret or higher clearance
