Position Overview:

The Lead Youth Treatment Specialist is a pivotal role within the Specialized Services Division at Wisconsin Community Services (WCS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting individuals in overcoming challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

The Lead Youth Treatment Specialist fulfills two critical functions within the Residential Care Center:

  • Providing direct care, nurturing, and supervision of youth to ensure their needs are met.
  • Leading shifts, ensuring staff are adequately trained, and that the needs of the youth are being addressed while adhering to the policies and procedures of the Residential Care Center.

Essential Duties:

Youth Treatment Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate therapeutic interactions in the milieu by coaching skill application through daily activities, modeling appropriate behaviors, and reinforcing skills using a token economy system.
  • Implement evidence-based practices for youth with mental health, substance use, and life challenges, including the Integrated Treatment Model (ITM) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
  • Co-facilitate groups on various topics such as healthy relationships, independent living skills, and cultural identity development.
  • Organize and supervise scheduled activities for youth, both on-site and in the community, including clubs, educational outings, and recreational events.
  • Support educational development by acting as a learning coach in the classroom.
  • Ensure sight and sound supervision for youth and families with complex needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding youth and family communications.

Lead Youth Treatment Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to Youth Treatment Specialists.
  • Supervise staff during shifts to ensure effective programming and treatment implementation.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to conduct staff evaluations and coaching.
  • Facilitate training for new staff in collaboration with program leadership.
  • Lead shift transition meetings and participate in management discussions.
  • Provide coverage for staff absences as needed.
  • Administer prescribed medications and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Complete necessary documentation including shift reports and incident reports within designated timeframes.
  • Work closely with leadership to develop programming and monitor compliance.
  • Adhere to WCS Policies and Procedures and state licensing requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Assist colleagues with coverage as required.
  • Fulfill other job-related responsibilities as necessary.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time or part-time availability.
  • Flexible scheduling with a rotation of first and second shifts.
  • Weekend and holiday rotations are required.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Experience working with children with mental health needs is essential.
  • Proficiency in computer applications is preferred.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence in working with diverse populations.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong understanding of positive youth development, crisis response, and the ability to interact professionally with youth and families.

Work Environment:

This position is based in a state-licensed residential care center, with responsibilities extending to community settings.
