JOB SUMMARY:
The Certified Sterilization Specialist is tasked with the thorough cleaning, sterilization, and proper storage of all items subjected to gas or steam sterilization.

This role involves preparing case carts for surgical procedures according to the established schedule, utilizing preference cards, and ensuring the availability of all necessary items.

Additionally, the specialist is responsible for maintaining inventory levels and restocking supplies for the operating room. This position aligns with the mission and objectives of OSS Health.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education:
  • High School diploma or GED is mandatory.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the cleaning, assembly, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies is preferred.
  • Certification from CBSPD or CRCST is required.
  • Ability to efficiently utilize time and resources is essential.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficient computer skills are required.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are a must.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensures the integrity and availability of instrument sets and trays.
  • Disassembles, cleans, and disinfects surgical instruments and equipment.
Restocks implant trays as necessary.
Assists in the reprocessing of instruments from satellite locations.
  • Maintains accurate records for the decontamination area and sterilization processes.
  • Regularly inspects instruments for damage, including broken, bent, or rusted items.
  • Handles instruments and equipment with care to prevent damage and loss.
  • Assists in keeping surgeons' preference cards updated.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all patient, hospital, and physician information.
  • Adheres to safety and infection control protocols.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new staff as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, is necessary for effective communication with patients, colleagues, physicians, vendors, and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires moderate physical effort in a patient care environment, including standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping.

Involves moderate sitting and keyboarding, along with fine and gross motor skills for operating equipment.

Frequently lifts up to 25 pounds and may need to move, push, or pull up to 50 pounds in the operating room setting; up to 30 pounds in the ambulatory surgical center.

Must be capable of responding swiftly and effectively to emergencies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted in a climate-controlled environment with occasional outdoor exposure.

Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, odorous chemicals, toxic substances, electrical and mechanical hazards, and bio-contaminated waste.

The role may involve stressful situations and requires flexibility in hours.
