Primary Objective

To provide students with enriching learning experiences and activities tailored to promote their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development through engagement in visual arts. Facilitate the development of skills and competencies necessary for students to thrive in society.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid teaching certification for visual arts at the assigned level
  • ESL Certification preferred or required within two years of employment

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of assigned subjects
  • Understanding of design and delivery methods that align with best practices for student achievement
  • Ability to effectively instruct and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Prior student teaching or approved internship experience

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Strategies

  • Design and execute lesson plans that meet the district's curriculum standards.
  • Prepare lessons accommodating various student learning styles.
  • Deliver subject matter in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Utilize appropriate instructional strategies and materials tailored to individual student needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and adapt instructional activities accordingly.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to modify curricula for students with special needs.
  • Work with colleagues to achieve instructional goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Incorporate technology to enhance the educational process.
  • Guide students in improving their study habits and techniques.
  • Regularly evaluate student performance through various assessments.
  • Take charge of extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Exhibit proficient artistic skills in the classroom.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials and resources.
  • Engage in district visual arts events, competitions, and exhibitions.
  • Maintain professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a conducive learning environment that supports students' physical, social, and emotional growth.
  • Manage student behavior and enforce discipline in line with district policies.
  • Ensure the safety of students, materials, and facilities.
  • Stay informed about safety protocols related to art supplies and equipment.

Communication

  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the district's mission.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Foster professional relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to convey information clearly.
  • Promote the district's mission and solicit community support.
  • Identify and address community needs through appropriate initiatives.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement in educational activities.

Professional Development

  • Engage in staff development opportunities to enhance job-related skills.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to staff committees.
  • Adhere to all relevant federal and state regulations.

Policy Compliance

  • Stay informed of and comply with district and school regulations.
  • Attend meetings to review and refine visual arts curriculum and policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
  • Follow the district's code of conduct and ethical guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain technological proficiency to meet educational needs.
  • Implement alternative instructional methods as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversee assigned teacher aides and student teachers.

Evaluation

Job performance will be assessed in accordance with district policies.

Mental and Physical Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computers.

Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse.

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting may be required.

Environment: May involve irregular hours and travel; all campuses are temperature controlled.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
