Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Inpatient Coding Manager at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. This position is responsible for managing the inpatient coding and clinical documentation integrity services, ensuring accurate and compliant coding practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the inpatient coding team, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate and compliant coding practices.
  • Develop and implement coding policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze coding data, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, coders, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and compliant coding practices.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate coders and healthcare providers on coding best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in coding regulations and guidelines, ensuring the organization remains compliant.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Administration or equivalent degree required.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Computer and Information Science, or Public Administration preferred.
  • Considerable progressively responsible administrative medical information management experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic health records and health information management applications required.
  • Candidate must possess one of the following certifications: Registered Health Information Record Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by the American Health Information.
  • A minimum of two years of coding experience or three years of experience required working as a Clinical Documentation Integrity specialist or a comparable position is required.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Work experience in an acute care setting required.
  • Experience with medical record coding conventions (ICD-10-CM/PCS) and data analysis is required.
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills required for interactions with physicians, nursing staff, case managers, and other hospital personnel.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, and ability to assess, evaluate, and teach members of the healthcare team.
  • Knowledge and experience with medical information computer applications, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets.
