Position Overview
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in delivering essential nursing care to residents under the supervision of the charge nurse. The CNA is responsible for ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all residents, adhering to the facility's established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
To excel in this role, the individual must effectively perform the following duties:
- Deliver quality nursing care that respects residents' rights, dignity, and individuality.
- Provide personalized attention to help residents achieve or maintain their highest possible level of physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
- Understand and implement individualized care plans, contributing insights to the care planning process.
- Assist residents with daily activities, including grooming, bathing, feeding, and mobility.
- Maintain residents' comfort and dignity while delivering care.
- Report any incidents or concerns regarding resident rights or safety to the charge nurse.
- Ensure a clean and safe environment, reporting any issues to the charge nurse.
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and communicate these to nursing staff.
- Support residents in maintaining skin integrity and preventing pressure injuries.
- Respond promptly to residents' needs and requests.
- Perform various tasks as assigned by the charge nurse, including vital sign checks and specimen collection.
- Assist with resident orientation upon admission and during transfers.
- Utilize proper techniques for lifting and moving residents.
- Participate in resident activities and escort them as needed.
- Practice efficient use of supplies and adhere to established procedures.
- Document care provided in accordance with departmental policies.
- Follow safety and infection control protocols diligently.
- Engage in regular rounds and transport residents within the facility.
- Foster a homelike atmosphere for residents.
- Address inquiries from residents, visitors, and staff in a timely manner.

- Technical proficiency in nursing care.

The physical demands of this role include:
- Must be at least 17 years old.
- Frequent lifting or moving of residents and objects exceeding 100 pounds.
- Regular pushing or pulling of wheelchairs or beds weighing over 200 pounds.
- Frequent bending and reaching to assist residents.
- Ability to balance while performing tasks.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity are essential.
- Exposure to various environmental conditions, including potential infectious materials.
- Ability to assist in evacuating residents during emergencies.
- Capacity to work with individuals who may be ill, disabled, or emotionally distressed.
Other expectations include:
- Participation in external activities to stay updated on best practices.
- Willingness to work during holidays as needed.
- Maintaining confidentiality of resident information.
- Adherence to a drug-free workplace policy.
- Compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations.
