Mammography Technologist Job Description

The Portland Clinic is seeking a skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our Radiology department, you will be responsible for performing high-quality mammographic examinations and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform mammographic examinations according to established radiologic standards and protocols.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly quality control monitoring, charting, and documentation of values on appropriate QC forms.
  • Maintain and clean mammographic and non-mammographic equipment in the department as needed.
  • Provide basic nursing skills, quality patient care, and give appropriate patient instructions as necessary for various procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation and images are accurate in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and teleradiology system.
  • Prepare mammographic images for radiologists to interpret in a timely manner.
  • Maintain room supplies and equipment to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety for patients and staff.
  • Maintain ethical conduct in accordance with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and The Portland Clinic standards.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements as required by the American College of Radiology (ACR), Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Develop and maintain professional and cordial relationships with patients, clerical staff, coworkers, supervisors, radiologists, and physicians.
  • Report incidents and accidents, unsafe conditions, malfunctioning equipment, and room supply needs immediately to the supervisor or designated person.
  • Participate as an active team member in a patient-centered medical home.
Requirements:
  • Completion of an Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT certification in Mammography and Radiography.
  • Oregon licensure in Radiographic Technology.
  • Meet and maintain continuing education and experience MQSA requirements in Mammography.
  • Knowledge of MQSA/FDA QA/QC requirements.
  • CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of mammography equipment, radiation physics, radiation safety, medical terminology, and departmental protocols.
  • Knowledge of MQSA/FDA mammography federal regulations and requirements.
  • Basic understanding of Infection Control.
  • Values team success.

  • Capability of effectively working on more than one task without a reduction in the quality of work and service performed.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and use initiative to proceed with necessary tasks without direct supervision.
