Position Overview

The Young People's Project (YPP) is dedicated to transforming the landscape of participation in STEM education across various communities. Our mission focuses on engaging students who have been historically marginalized in STEM fields, ensuring equitable access and improved outcomes. With over 25 years of experience, YPP empowers young individuals to become effective educators and leaders in math literacy.

Role Responsibilities

The Computer Science For All initiative aims to enhance math instruction through a collaborative near-peer mentorship model. As a College STEM Literacy Worker (CSLW), you will play a pivotal role in this innovative project.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Collaborating with YPP and Bootstrap staff to develop your skills as an educator in integrated computer science education.
  2. Assisting 9th and 10th grade math teachers in delivering engaging content related to the Bootstrap Algebra curriculum.
  3. Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters respect and engagement.
  4. Building strong professional relationships with students, teachers, and YPP staff.
  5. Facilitating the development of essential skills in students, including communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  6. Taking on leadership roles within the classroom to support teaching and classroom management.

Basic Qualifications
  • Residing in the Boston area.
  • Aged between 19-25 or currently enrolled in a Boston area college/university with a focus on STEM.
  • Experience with coding languages.
  • Comfortable delivering presentations and instructing in urban educational environments.
  • Willingness to embrace innovative teaching methodologies.
  • A passion for design, action, and iterative improvement.
Compensation & Schedule
  • Part-time position.
  • Compensation at $17 per hour.
