Job Details

Oncology RNs provide comprehensive care for cancer patients and those at risk for the disease. They monitor physical conditions, prescribe medication, and administer chemotherapy and other treatments. Additionally, they care for patients who are acutely ill with various medical problems and diseases or are recovering from surgery. Oncology RNs handle large patient loads, manage multiple patient populations, and adapt to the evolving face of nursing care.

Work Settings

Oncology RNs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, schools, and ambulatory care centers. They may also work in camps and other non-traditional settings.

Education and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): 4-Year Education
  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN): 2-Year Education
  • RNs must earn an ADN or BSN degree and pass the NCLEX to apply for a license.
  • RNs can only work with an active state license.
  • OCN certification is often required.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work 13-week contracts
  • Must have flexible availability
