Job Summary

The Tustin Unified School District is seeking a highly skilled Library Media Specialist II to join our team. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong background in library science and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Circulation and Collection Management: Supervise the circulation procedures, including maintaining patron cards, preparing overdue notices, and keeping records of equipment loans and returns.
  • Library Services: Assist students in accessing library materials, reinforce library skills, and introduce students to all aspects of the library media center and resources.
  • Electronic Library Management: Implement and supervise the electronic library management system for circulation and cataloging.
  • Purchasing and Acquisitions: Collaborate with teachers to determine library media center purchases in accordance with California State Framework and TUSD standards.
  • Financial Management: Assess and collect all library media fines, and process all new library resources for circulation.
  • Inventory and Maintenance: Maintain accurate files and inventories of library materials, library books, audiovisual hardware and software.
  • Training and Development: Train, establish procedures, and prepare work schedules for student assistants and parent volunteers.
  • Environmental Maintenance: Maintain a suitable environment conducive to reading and study.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent, and college-level coursework in library science or related field, and three years clerical or library experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of library methods, classification systems, procedures, and terminology, operation of a variety of office equipment, including a computer, correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary, alphabetizing, filing, and record keeping, health regulations, and safe working methods and procedures.
