Hazardous Materials Specialist Job Description

Bristol Bay Shared Services is seeking a highly skilled Hazardous Materials Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe handling, packaging, and delivery of hazardous materials received in our mailroom.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Package and Ship Hazardous Materials: Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and documentation for all hazmat shipments in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Inspect and Segregate Hazardous Materials: Receive and inspect all incoming packages to identify and segregate those containing hazardous materials.
  • Conduct Hazard Assessments: Determine appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for handling hazardous materials and conduct hazard assessments.
  • Coordinate with Other Departments: Work with other departments and external service providers to ensure timely and safe delivery of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain Inventory and Records: Maintain inventory of hazmat materials, monitor usage, and reorder when necessary, and maintain all necessary records and documentation in accordance with federal regulations and company policies.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: Required
  • Minimum of 2 Years of Experience: In hazardous materials handling, shipping, or receiving
  • Knowledge of Federal Regulations: OSHA, DOT, EPA
  • Strong Attention to Detail: Ability to identify potential hazards and work independently
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to effectively train and communicate with staff at all levels

Security Clearance: Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance required
