Position Overview: This role is pivotal in conducting diagnostic cardiac and vascular ultrasound examinations, providing essential measurements and precise imagery of cardiac structures. The outcomes are crucial for the cardiologist to deliver accurate diagnoses. Immediate feedback with preliminary reports of critical findings to nursing and medical staff is vital for timely and life-saving interventions.

Educational Requirements: A graduate from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is highly preferred.

Licensure and Certification: Candidates must possess either a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) credential from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Experience: 0 - 6 months of relevant experience is required.

Skills and Competencies: The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, apply critical thinking, and communicate effectively with surgeons, physicians, and healthcare personnel regarding ultrasound results. Participation in an on-call rotation after standard business hours is expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit proficiency in advanced cardiac and peripheral vascular procedures.
  • Conduct adult and pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures, including TEE and stress echo, as well as peripheral vascular examinations.
  • Review relevant patient data and reports prior to procedures.
  • Operate necessary equipment to achieve optimal diagnostic recordings and utilize ancillary devices effectively.
  • Exercise sound judgment in notifying physicians of abnormal results and reporting findings to the cardiologist.
  • Assist physicians during complex procedures to mitigate potential risks.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all procedures in accordance with departmental and hospital policies.
  • Collaborate to enhance departmental efficiency and anticipate equipment and supply needs.
  • Support unit and hospital objectives through quality assurance and educational initiatives.
  • Stay current with competency and registry requirements in specialty practices.
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance processes and national accreditation efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and maintain a clean and safe environment.

Decision-Making: The role requires independent judgment in making decisions from a variety of options, subject to general review at final stages.

Collaboration: The position involves coordinating activities with others and working closely with patients and healthcare professionals.
