A Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Technician is essential in emergency response and environmental safety, tasked with managing and addressing incidents involving hazardous substances. This role necessitates:

A deep understanding of hazardous materials, adherence to proper handling protocols, and the capability to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies. Hazmat Technicians operate in diverse environments, including industrial sites, emergency response units, and environmental cleanup initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address hazardous materials spills, leaks, and emergencies proactively. Manage site operations, chemical storage, and laboratory environments in accordance with established protocols. Ensure consistent operation following guidelines and management directives.
  • Utilize advanced instrumentation, such as pH meters, mass spectrometers, and gas chromatographs, to detect, identify, and monitor hazardous materials.
  • Oversee the management of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, decontaminate tools and products, and maintain chemical storage through inventory systems. Assist in waste disposal administration.
  • Evaluate malfunctioning hazmat systems and equipment, suggest corrective measures, and perform minor repairs or modifications as necessary.
  • Employ machine tools and hand tools to work with various materials, adhering to specified tolerances as directed.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of facility operations and production processes, executing maintenance effectively according to best practices or general guidance.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, production supervisors, and other stakeholders within the organization, and coordinate with external personnel when directed.
  • Respond to Emergency Response Team (ERT) events and evacuations, providing support for troubleshooting and facility system operations (e.g., process piping, Hazmat, and laboratory systems).
  • Be available for emergency call-outs to address urgent situations during regular and off-hours.
  • Support life safety operations, including fire systems, emergency lighting, chemical spill response, and gas detection.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, ISO, and safety standards related to Hazmat and chemical storage.
  • This is a full-time position that may require weekend and occasional holiday availability.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must fulfill all requirements for approval to work in specific ATS environments, including a ten-year work history if available.
  • No prior experience is necessary; on-the-job training will be provided.
  • A high school diploma, GED, or college degree is not required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in customer service.
  • One year of relevant work experience.
