Position Summary:

The Chief Operations Officer will collaborate closely with the Senior Pastor to establish and execute the necessary processes and frameworks that underpin the mission and ministry of the organization. This role is pivotal in delivering leadership through management and oversight, strategic planning, and evaluation, as well as facilities management and planning. The individual will be tasked with continuously enhancing and managing efficient operational functions, including administration, finance, legal affairs, IT, human resources, security, and physical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Oversight and Strategy
  • Supervise budgeting, strategic planning, financial forecasting, accounting, and cash flow for administrative functions and ongoing programs.
  • Review and authorize the preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Ensure adherence to sound bookkeeping and accounting practices.
  • Manage the organization’s funds in accordance with the approved budget and the culture of generosity.
  • Monitor monthly cash flow and ensure compliance with all relevant taxation laws.
  • Coordinate audit activities and maintain a comprehensive inventory of all organizational assets.

  1. Operational Leadership
  • Continuously refine, manage, and enhance operational systems and policies to align with the strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Oversee the organization’s technology infrastructure and IT contractors to ensure effective management of all technological resources.
  • Manage the physical infrastructure and maintenance systems, ensuring improvements and renovations are executed effectively.
  • Act as the primary liaison with vendors that are integral to the organization’s operations.
  • Seek legal counsel as necessary and ensure proper management of legal documentation.
  • Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan for the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Oversee all human resources functions and maintain a secure and safe working environment.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to the organization.
  • Participate as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.

  1. Staff Supervision
  • Collaborate with direct reports to develop strategic operational systems that reflect the organization’s mission and values.
  • Ensure each direct report has a current, documented performance plan.
  • Conduct regular meetings with direct reports to promote healthy spiritual growth and effective ministry.
  • Perform periodic evaluations of each direct report’s performance.
  • Ensure effective management of departmental budgets.
  • Maintain robust staff development programs and foster a positive organizational culture.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, MBA
  • 10+ years of experience in managing finance and administration within an organization.
  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ that exemplifies the teachings and beliefs of the organization.
  • Strong understanding of church management theory and practical experience in church operations.
  • Demonstrated financial management and accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; database knowledge is a plus.

Working Environment:

This position operates in a standard office setting, utilizing standard office equipment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
