Job Description

Microsoft is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Lead to join our Core OS team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the architecture and direction of our kernel components, including graphics and compute device support in Windows.

Our team is responsible for the evolution of the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) and the Microsoft Compute Driver Model (MCDM), as well as accelerator technologies such as scheduling, memory management, and virtualization for cloud and client environments.

We are looking for a leader who is passionate about OS internals, security, heterogeneous compute technology, and virtualization. You will be expected to manage and mentor a team of engineers, work closely with industry partners, and embody our culture and values.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, design, and implement new features involving virtualization and containerization of accelerators such as GPUs and NPUs.
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers focused on applying virtualization and containerization technology to improve security.
  • Work closely with industry partners to bring these designs to various markets.
  • Evaluate device performance in critical pathways around virtualization, scheduling, memory management, etc.
  • Investigate and root cause failures in both live environments and postmortem.
  • Provide support to the team and partners as they bring their devices to market.
  • Embody our culture and values.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python or Rust.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Deep knowledge of OS internals, security, and virtualization technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python or Rust.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years people management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience leading an engineering team.
  • Familiarity with techniques for efficient memory usage and debugging memory-related issues.
  • Experience with Kernel driver development.
  • Proficient technical design, problem-solving, debugging, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in shipping high-quality products and services.

Benefits:

Microsoft offers a competitive salary range of $161,600 - $286,200 per year, with a different range applicable to specific work locations. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
