Bakery Department Leader Job Description

As a Bakery Department Leader at Kroger, you will be responsible for creating an exceptional customer experience through outstanding service and maintaining a safe, clean environment that encourages customer loyalty. You will achieve sales and profit goals for the department while controlling quality assurance standards. Your role will involve monitoring all functions, duties, and activities related to the Bakery department, demonstrating the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote a Positive Work Environment: Foster trust and respect among associates, promoting a positive attitude and open communication.
  • Communicate Effectively: Share company, department, and job-specific information with associates, ensuring they are informed and empowered to meet targets.
  • Set Department Goals: Establish performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets through teamwork and collaboration.
  • Schedule and Train Associates: Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume and train associates on their job performance, participating in the performance appraisal process.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions, making suggestions, and locating products.
  • Stay Up-to-Date on Products: Inform customers of produce specials, offer product samples, and review/inspect products for quality and freshness.
  • Develop Business Plans: Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results, creating and executing sales promotions in partnership with store management.
  • Stay Informed: Inform and educate department associates about current, upcoming, and special in-store promotions, especially those affecting the department.
  • Prepare Reports: Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor, implementing the period promotional plan for the department.
  • Manage Finances: Assist management in preparing the store/department budget, expense control, profit and loss reviews, and take appropriate action on all financial reports.
  • Maintain Inventory: Plan and organize the inventory process, maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions, note any discrepancies, and train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
  • Ensure Safety: Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, practicing preventive maintenance, and notifying store management of any items in need of repair or customer/employee accidents.
  • Report Incidents: Report all safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
  • Adhere to Laws and Guidelines: Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Work Cooperatively: Ability to work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment, manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner, and act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Support Customers: Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Basic Math Skills: Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction).
  • Stress Management: Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Food Handlers Permit: Current food handlers permit once employed.
