Job Title: Domestic Violence Youth Specialist

Job Summary:

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Domestic Violence Youth Specialist to join our team. This position will work with youth ages 18 and younger within the Service Delivery Area of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska by facilitating activities that promote positive, healthy lifestyles and raise cultural awareness.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Organize culturally relevant activities that focus on the youth's strengths and tribal heritage.
  2. Provide advocacy and services to youth experiencing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking.
  3. Facilitate support groups and activities for youth victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking.
  4. Create Service Learning opportunities with youth.
  5. Develop and implement program guidelines with each youth, including proper documentation, intake forms, and necessary assessments.
  6. Coordinate with other community resources to enhance the program and broaden its services.
  7. Promote the full scope of youth activities, programs, and services within the community and maintain positive public relations.
  8. Mentor youth in the program while maintaining their physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
  9. Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree in a human services, criminal justice, or education-related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience, education, or a working knowledge of child development and education, domestic violence prevention programming, and human services.
  • One year of experience working with youth.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and be insurable.
  • Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a human services, criminal justice, or education-related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • One year of case management experience.
  • One year of program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • One year of experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Public Law 93-638: Indian Self-Determination Act, Tribal organizations, and funding opportunities.

Working Environment:

This position is in a professional office environment. The staff may be required to work with clients who are in crisis and must demonstrate empathy, understanding, respect, and advocacy while remaining calm in stressful situations.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners, and photocopiers. The staff will sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during work hours.

This position will be subject to potentially emotionally disturbing material as presented to staff, clients, and outside entities.

Will be required to work outside normal business hours to include evenings and weekends.

Extensive travel throughout the Ponca Service Delivery Area will be required and occasional travel outside of the Service Delivery Area.
