About the Role

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Specialist I to join our team. As a Mental Health Specialist I, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide basic supportive care to patients, including hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and elimination.
  • Collect, document, and report data, including vital signs, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure.
  • Assist with physical crisis intervention techniques and physical restraint during specific crisis situations.
  • Participate in unit/program/area quality improvement activities.
  • Perform general unit tasks, including answering phone calls, responding to call lights, and assisting with admission and discharge functions.
Environmental Responsibilities
  • Perform regular checks of the patient environment to maintain safety.
  • Dust surface areas on the unit/area.
  • Clean the unit/area refrigerators (conference room).
  • Change needle boxes.
  • Empty non-routine trash and linen bags.
  • Assist unit in maintaining Joint Commission readiness.
Interpersonal Responsibilities
  • Provide age-appropriate care to patients and families.
  • Participate as a member of the patient care team by assisting others.
  • Participate in unit conferences as requested.
  • Meet the standards of patient care and perform within the policies and procedures of Children's Hospital, Inc. and the Division of Patient Care Services.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Students in Bachelors of Psychology, Social Work, Nursing or related field can apply after half of their undergrad program has been completed OR One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past 3 years.
  • Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Neat appearance, good grooming and professional manner.
  • CPR trained (American Heart Association CPR for Family and Friends) course or Health Care Provider course or Red Cross equivalent.
