Position Overview

The Senior Superintendent for Aviation is tasked with overseeing and managing all daily operations at the job site. This includes ensuring project team performance, maintaining site conditions, upholding safety and quality standards, and ensuring compliance with project scope while effectively managing trade partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and document daily job site activities, ensuring OSHA safety compliance.
  • Direct field personnel in alignment with the project plan and Suffolk's supervisory principles.
  • Communicate daily updates regarding issues, events, performance, and progress to the Project Manager.
  • Promptly report problems to the Project Manager to facilitate cost-effective solutions.
  • Establish strong working relationships with clients and Suffolk team members.
  • Seek guidance from the General Superintendent on materials, sequencing, scheduling, and personnel matters.
  • Conduct Project Start-Up/Turnover Meetings, identifying pre-mobilization activities in collaboration with the Project Executive, General Superintendent, and Project Manager.
  • Assist in developing and implementing construction schedules in the field.
  • Establish and maintain the Project Baseline Schedule based on project contracts and subcontractor input, considering any elements that may impact the schedule.
  • Ensure that work performed aligns with the contract and meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Verify that all subcontractors participate in a safety pre-construction meeting before commencing work.
  • Ensure all subcontractors have a complete set of MSD sheets, site-specific safety plans, and current insurance certificates or OCIP/CCIP enrollment IDs.
  • Review daily project activities to ensure compliance with OSHA and project-specific safety plans.
  • Establish pertinent benchmarks for the project and incorporate them into the baseline schedule.
  • Ensure that all relevant individuals are part of the Q-Team.
  • Oversee that all initial delivery inspections and benchmark inspections occur according to the baseline schedule to avoid impacting subsequent work.
  • Participate in project turnover, mobilization, and coordination meetings.
  • Lead safety pre-construction meetings.
  • Complete and implement construction office checklists, including emergency contact lists.
  • Maintain daily reports and logs of key activities, files, and shop drawings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with experience commensurate to project size and scope.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in related construction fields.
  • Ability to manage and adapt to change, responding to new processes and innovative solutions.
  • Relevant area licenses.
  • Strong team development and leadership skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the Project Manager and staff.
  • Self-motivated and confident.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage numerous details essential for successful construction.
  • Judgment to escalate issues appropriately within the chain of command.
  • Strong management skills to ensure high-quality subcontractor performance.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills with the ability to act decisively.

Working Conditions

This role requires the employee to sit for extended periods, communicate effectively, and perform fine motor skills using a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee will frequently stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment is primarily office-based with a quiet to moderate noise level, along with job site visits.

Compensation

The estimated compensation range for this position is a base salary of $200,000 - $250,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This range is reflective of market rates and is determined by various factors, including external salary surveys, internal data for comparable roles, and the operational and budgetary objectives of the company. Suffolk also offers a comprehensive benefits package as part of its overall compensation strategy.
