Commercial Development Manager

As a key member of the Waste Connections team, the Commercial Development Manager plays a critical role in driving business growth and development. This position is accountable for commercial analysis and negotiation, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify and capitalize on opportunities in the energy market.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Opportunity Identification: Identify and prioritize opportunities for optimization of assets through industry networking and strategic evaluation.
  • Commercial Proposal Development: Negotiate and develop commercial proposals and work with Legal to develop formal agreements.
  • Contract Management: Manage transportation and connection contracts with midstream service providers, ensuring alignment of contracts with business needs.
  • Project Development: Collaborate with Operations, Technical Services, and Finance to identify and steward projects through internal development processes, as well as supporting M&A evaluation.
  • Economic Evaluation: Guide economic evaluations and develop business cases and presentations for delivery to senior leadership.
  • Team Development: Mentor and develop analysts and other junior staff.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain excellent relationships with producers, midstream, and downstream participants in the Canadian energy industry as well as internal stakeholders.
  • Market Knowledge: Maintain in-depth knowledge of energy and waste markets and pricing.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years previous work experience in waste, energy, or midstream business development.
  • Education: A university degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or Engineering.
  • Market Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of Canadian energy production and markets, infrastructure, and pricing.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively interact with various internal and external stakeholders and present information clearly and concisely.
  • Personal Qualities: Must be self-motivated and a strong team player.
  • Analytical Skills: Highly effective analytical, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

This role requires a strong analytical and communication skillset, high levels of initiative and diplomacy, the ability to build consensus, challenge the status quo, and develop solutions. The ideal candidate is a team player who is proactive, has strong problem-solving skills, and effective relationship-building skills.
