The COMET contract oversees the comprehensive management and execution of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at a prominent space center. These responsibilities support various programs, including the International Space Station and advanced space exploration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of animal husbandry tools and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and sterilization.

- Manage the processing of animal feed, bedding, and other necessary supplies, preparing standard and specialized diets as well as sterile water.

- Conduct quality assurance tasks, including maintaining records and providing samples of sanitized feed and water.

- Operate various facility equipment, including cage and bottle washers, and perform routine maintenance as per guidelines.

- Prepare necessary supplies and equipment to support research activities.

- Handle animals for tasks such as relocation, cage maintenance, feeding, watering, health assessments, data collection, and medication administration, while keeping a daily health log.

- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, restocking as needed and reporting shortages to the Lead Animal Care Technician.

- Assist personnel and researchers in maintaining sanitation protocols for facility access, including guidance on cleanroom attire.

- Ensure the cleanliness of the barrier facility/cleanroom to uphold Specific Pathogen Free conditions, including surface cleaning and microbial sampling.

- Conduct weekly safety inspections.

- Perform additional tasks as required.

Qualifications:

Requires a minimum of a high school diploma and one year of experience in a laboratory animal setting or relevant experience with animals.

- Must pass the necessary physical examination for animal contact.

- Understanding of ethical considerations in the care and use of research animals is essential.

- Ability to wear cleanroom attire for extended periods is required.

- Physical demands include climbing, standing for long durations, lifting up to 50 lbs., and various physical movements.

- Compliance with safety gear requirements is mandatory.

- Position involves working in a hazardous environment; quick evacuation capability is essential.

- Must navigate uneven terrain and work in varying temperature conditions.

- Exposure to animal-related odors and allergens is expected.

- Basic proficiency with standard office equipment is required.

- Dependability and punctuality are crucial, with potential for weekend and holiday work.

Work Environment:

- The role requires both indoor and outdoor work across the facility.

- Daily travel to different site areas may be necessary.

- All tasks must adhere to safety standards set by the organization.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.

- Occasional travel may be required to fulfill job duties.

- Adherence to grooming and dress codes is expected.

- Compliance with drug-free workplace policies is mandatory.

- Future government security clearance may be necessary.
